The Snyder Chamber of Commerce hotel occupancy tax (HOT) fund committee heard four requests for financial assistance during its meeting Tuesday.
Organizers of three upcoming events are asking for HOT funds to help with staging their events. They are:
• Snyder CrossFit, which will host the Granite Games Throwdown West Texas region competition on Jan. 12. Organizer Kendall Riggan is requesting $10,000 to help pay for advertising, prizes for winners, judges and equipment.
The event is expected to attract up to 144 contestants who will compete in four events throughout the day. Winners in each division will qualify for the national Granite Games competition later in 2019.
• Scurry County Museum, which is requesting $2,890 to help defray costs of its annual Chocolate Fest, to be held Feb. 9 at the 1818 Arthouse.
Organizer Erika Jayne Christian said the money will be used to pay for out-of-county advertising.
• Western Texas College rodeo team, which will host its annual National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Rodeo April 4-6 in The Coliseum.
Coach Greg Rhodes is requesting $10,000 in HOT funds to help defray a variety of costs, including advertising, prizes and livestock.
Also Tuesday, Lynn Fuller, owner of the Triangle Sinclair Station on Coliseum Drive, asked for $2,280 in HOT funds to help pay for liability insurance and repairs to the building.
The committee will forward its recommendations to the chamber board, which will make a final decision on the requests Monday. The board meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the chamber office boardroom.
