According to figures released by Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar, retail sales in Snyder rebounded in January after a slow Christmas shopping season, however Scurry County’s sales tax allocation from the state is down.
The City of Snyder will receive $276,462 in sales tax revenue this month, an increase of 10.03 percent compared to last March, when the city received $251,247 from the state.
Year-to-date the city has received $787,587 back from the state, compared to $818,134 over the first three months of 2019. That represents a 3.73 percent decrease.
Scurry County will receive $203,345 in sales tax revenue this month, a 3.77 percent decrease over last March, when the county received $211,329 back from the state.
Year-to-date the county has received $620,712 back from the state, a 5.25 percent increase over the first three months’ allocations of $589,711 last year.
Outside of Lubbock and Abilene, which both saw retail sales increase by more than 5 percent, January sales were a mixed bag in the region with some allocations increasing and others decreasing.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced this week he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $766.2 million in local sales tax allocations for March.
That represents a.7 percent over allocation sent in March 2019.
