Early voting begins Oct. 24 and voters have until Oct. 11 to register to vote for the Nov. 8 general election.
Scurry County Clerk Melody Appleton said any information updates on registration cards must also be made by Oct. 11.
Early voting will be held on the first floor of the Scurry County Courthouse from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Oct. 24 through Nov. 4.
Appleton said she expects a good turnout this year, both in early voting and on election day.
“I think we’ll have a high turnout because of how much attention this presidential election has gained,” Appleton said. “That will really be the only race that brings people out. Basically none of the local races are contested.”
Jodey Arrington, the Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives District 19 seat, faces no major party opposition. State Rep. Dustin Burrows and Texas state Sen. Charles Perry are running unopposed.
No propositions or amendments are on the ballot.
None of the other local races will be contested because there are no Democratic candidates.
Appleton said the only potential concern regarding voting is the new law that no longer requires voters to provide photo identification. Appleton said the clerk’s office still requests that voters bring a photo ID if they have one.
If they do not have one, and have a “reasonable impediment” for not having one, other forms of identification may be presented, including a certified birth certificate, utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government documents. Those who do not have valid photo ID must also sign an affidavit.
