The Scurry County Commissioners’ Court will consider hiring a general contractor for the Cavendar Road project Tuesday.
The court received and opened six bids for the general contractor at its meeting last week. Lone Wolf Construction, LLC, of Colleyville, submitted the lowest bid at $1,529,573.  The highest bid was from Price Construction, of Big Spring, for $2,313,490.
MH Civil Constructors, Inc., of Amarillo, bid $1,911,863; Nobles Road Construction, Inc., of Abilene, bid $1,859,045; Black Jack Energy Services, LLC, of Big Spring, bid $1,665,570; and J.H. Strain and Sons, Inc., of Tye, bid $1,657,937.
Commissioners voted in April 2014 to use $2,074,427 from the Texas Department of Transportation infrastructure fund grant program to help pay for the proposed truck bypass.
Scurry County will match 20 percent of the project’s cost as part of the grant’s conditions.
The proposed road would run from Blockline Road for approximately 1.8 miles east to Hwy. 350. Commissioners had previously said that the proposed Cavendar Road is needed as a truck bypass route due to the high truck traffic volume on Hwy. 350.
The court will also consider accepting bids for a 1975 Ford fire truck the county wants to sell.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the Scurry County Courtroom, located on the third floor of the Scurry County Courthouse, and is open to the public. There is no time set aside for public comments.
