Golfers whose accounts are more than 60 days past due will not be allowed to play on the Scurry County Golf Course after commissioners created new policies in an effort to collect overdue membership dues and cart storage rental fees.
In a unanimous vote Tuesday afternoon, the court voted to not allow golfers to play on the course if their membership dues are two months behind.
“Most people have responded to our request for payment very positive,” County Judge Ricky Fritz said. “The response has been very, very positive.”
Golfers who are 60 days delinquent on cart storage can pay at the county treasurer’s office or their cart shed will padlocked until the account is paid in full.
The court voted that if cart storage fees are 90 days overdue, the contents of the cart shed will be secured by the county.
“Hopefully these will be temporary policies,” Fritz said, noting the county hopes to have someone running the course soon.
The court also approved accepting $242,846 from the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) health and employees benefits pool because of low use of insurance by county employees.
“This is the first of three yearly payments,” Fritz said, adding ihe amount could increase if insurance usage continues to be low.
Commissioners also approved a $365,661 reimbursement from the Texas Department of Transportation for the Cavendar Road truck bypass project.
Due to the large number of roofs damaged in the recent hail storm and the many different types of roofs involved, the court voted to start over on the assessment of damages with the insurance companies and engineers.
The court also unanimously approved resolutions opposing appraisal caps by the state and unfunded state mandates and for the use of state funds for indigent criminal defense cases.
The court also approved line-item transfers for $3,000 for the Scurry County Jail from capital expenditures to other equipment, $1,000 for the Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace office from equipment to office supplies and communications to cover costs for a new postal machine and higher phone costs from AT&T due to the contract expiring, $1,000 for the Scurry County Sheriff’s Office from fuel and oil to investigation expenses, $500 for the Scurry County Extension Office from part-time employee to office supplies due to increase expenses and $940 for the Scurry County Attorney’s office from office supplies to other equipment.
