The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) transferred three troopers to its Scurry County office in October and all three have enjoyed the job and the community.
Will Windham grew up in Clyde and said becoming a DPS trooper was his goal for a long time. He got his start in law enforcement working for the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and then the Cross Plains Police Department.
In August 2015, Windham was hired as a trooper for the DPS in Big Spring. He worked there until October, when he was transferred to Snyder.
“It’s wonderful here,” Windham said. “I’ve enjoyed everything. The learning experience is unreal. After working in the police department, there are a lot more things you have to take care of with the DPS.”
Devin Anderson said he’s wanted a career in law enforcement, specifically DPS, since he was a child in Abilene.
“My best friend’s dad worked for DPS,” Anderson said. “I really looked up to him. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time.”
Anderson joined the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office in 2008 and worked four years in the jail and four years as a deputy. In 2015, he applied to be a DPS trooper and went to the academy. Anderson said he has enjoyed working and living in Snyder.
“It’s awesome,” Anderson said. “It’s a great department and I work with great people. The small community is really great. It’s been a pretty good experience so far.”
Carlos Felix was in Afghanistan when he first had the idea of working in law enforcement.
“My friend and I, when we were in Afghanistan, about to leave the military talked about what to do next and we talked about law enforcement,” he said. “It’s like the military because you can make a difference on a daily basis.”
After looking at police departments in Austin and Irving, Felix pursued employment opportunities with the DPS.
He said the state was welcoming and this past fall, he and his family moved from Waxahachie to Snyder.
“It’s amazing, I love it,” Felix said. “I love it because the community is awesome.”
