The Scurry County Jail did not pass its standards inspection from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards due to a staff member not being in the kitchen during food preparation on inspection day.
Scurry County Sheriff Trey Wilson said the jailer assigned to the kitchen was transporting an inmate to a doctor’s appointment at the time of the inspection on Nov. 16. Because that staff member was not present, the jail must have a staff member in the kitchen for 30 days to show the commission it is complying with the findings.
Wilson said that was the only issue on the inspection and that if the jail can prove it is properly staffed, it should “be good to go” on passing the inspection.
“We have staff members in the kitchen doing what they’re supposed to,” Wilson said. “It’s not too big of a big deal.”
Each jail in Texas is subject to state inspections. A failure to comply with any of the commission’s jail standards can result in a failed inspection.
