County to pay increase in retiree insurance

The Scurry County Commissioners’ Court decided today to remain with County Choice Insurance for the county’s retired employees who are 65 and older.
Commissioners agreed that the county would pay the 9 percent increase in rates for retirees and their spouses, effective Jan. 1, 2016.
The court also agreed to divide its votes equally among the five candidates for the Scurry County Appraisal District board of directors election.
Any remaining votes would be allotted to Fred Cross.
Commissioners approved $16,537 in line-item transfers. The transfers were:
• $9,607 for the court tech fund from courthouse security capital outlay over $5,000 to district court tech fund equipment over $500 and county court tech fund equipment over $500 for technology improvements needed in the district and county courtrooms.
• $3,000 for the Scurry County Boys and Girls Club from postage and education/travel to utilities and operating expenses to cover end of the year expenses.
• $1,999 for the district attorney’s office from postage and fuel/oil to travel expenses, leases and rentals, office supplies, auto expenses, law books and communications.
• $1,500 for the district clerk’s office from maintenance agreements to office supplies and education/training to cover end of the year expenses.
• $430 for the county clerk’s office from equipment to election expenses and education/training to cover election costs and travel.
