Scurry County is under a flash flood watch through 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the watch due to a strong upper trough expected to move through the region tonight.
“Since there is a very moist atmosphere in place, showers and thunderstorms which develop today and tonight will be capable of heavy rainfall and flash flooding. Thunderstorms over the same areas could enhance rainfall totals, especially over the Permian Basin,” the NWS bulletin stated.
Also included in the watch are Andrews, Borden, Dawson, Howard and Mitchell counties.
Over the weekend, Fluvanna received 1.86 inches of rain while Gail recorded 1.08 inches, according to the Texas Tech University West Texas Mesonet website.
Snyder’s two reporting stations did not top one inch. Western Texas College received 0.56 of an inch while the SnTx Industrial Park received 0.22 of an inch.
Lake Alan Henry recorded 2.34 inches over the weekend while Slaton received 1.66 inches and Post had 1.06 inches.
Other rainfall totals recorded by the Mesonet website were Lamesa, 0.73 of an inch; Rotan, 0.72 of an inch; Sweetwater, 0.69 of an inch; Andrews, 0.39 of an inch; and  Colorado City, 0.06 of an inch.
Tonight, the NWS forecast includes a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with winds out of the southeast at 10 to 15 miles per hour.
On Tuesday, a 70 percent chance of showers is in the forecast, but skies will begin to clear during the evening hours with a low temperature of 51 degrees.
Sunny skies, with highs in the mid 70s, are in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.
However, rain chances return to the forecast Thursday night and could be possible through the weekend, the forecast showed.
