The two-year-old child who was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Thursday was not in a child safety seat, nor was she wearing a safety belt, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Brian Sheridan said.
Adrianna Torres, 2, was in a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban driven by her mother, Rosanna Silva, 22, and traveling south on Round Top Road at 12:26 p.m. Thursday.
According to a press release from DPS, Silva disregarded a stop sign and her vehicle was struck by a 2013 Ford F-250 pickup truck, causing both vehicles to slide off of the road.
Both Silva and the other driver, identified as 63-year-old Amador Sanchez, were taken to Cogdell Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock.
Adrianna Torres was pronounced dead by Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb.
Sanchez’ condition was considered to be stable and non-incapacitating, but Silva was listed as being in critical condition when she was transported.
Sheridan said Monday he has received no updates on Silva, other than that she is still in serious condition, but is able to communicate.
The crash is still under investigation by DPS Trooper Kyle Sanford.
