The Snyder Farmers Market concluded its run this past weekend, and organizers are already planning next year’s events.
Kiera Harris, events coordinator at The Coliseum, said the first year of the Snyder Farmers Market brought a “sense of fellowship” and said she was pleased with the overall turnout.
“I think it definitely exceeded expectations,” Harris said. “It was exciting to see the Snyder community enjoy it. The quality of our vendors was refreshing. It just proves the type of talent we have in our community.”
The Snyder Farmers Market was held on the second Saturday of each month between June and October. Harris, along with fellow organizers Darla Wiggins and Mitch Calhoun, were looking for ways to bring together merchants and members of the Snyder community. Harris said the first and final market days attracted the most visitors.
The first fell on the weekend of Western Swing Festival and the last market day was held in conjunction with Soctoberfest.
Harris said that although patrons wished more produce was available, she has heard positive feedback from patrons and vendors alike. Harris said the response was good, even on slow market days.
“Even on our slowest day, in September, because of the rain, we still had happy vendors and happy patrons,” Harris said. “You might think the rain would keep people away but it didn’t.”
Harris said the turnout and positive feedback bode well for the event to return in the future. However, organizers are still seeking community feedback.
Harris said organizers are trying to figure out ways to have more produce and merchandise vendors.
“As organizers, we’ll have to discuss what went well, what we can improve on and if we can even pull this off again,” Harris said. “Overall, we just want to thank the community for the support, the vendors for their talent and we look forward to the possibility of it returning.”
