Big Country Electrical Cooperative employees held a cookout to show their appreciation for local first responders Wednesday.
Representatives from the Snyder Police Department, Scurry County Sheriff’s Office, Snyder Fire Department, Scurry County EMS and Texas Department of Public Safety were on hand for burgers and sausage cooked by Big Country Electric employees. Richard Powell, the cooperative’s Snyder district manager, said the cookout was a way to thank first responders.
“We do appreciate everything you do for the community,” Powell said to the group before the food was served. “It is our pleasure to do this for you.”
Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke thanked Powell and the Big Country Electric employees for the meal. He said events like the cookout are further evidence of the support the community has for first responders.
“We appreciate all the support we’ve been given,” Luecke said. “We’ve received a tremendous amount of support from Big Country and from the community.”
Adam Wester, a paramedic for Scurry County EMS, said he and other first responders were grateful for the gesture and said it felt good to have that kind of community support.
He said the cookout also gave the different departments a chance to be in one place at the same time.
“It means a lot to us as first responders to know the community is behind us 110 percent,” Wester said. “It provides a nice sense of community and camaraderie between the different agencies.”
