Seated in the van Friday afternoon, 101-year-old birthday boy Benny Benitez awaited his parade on 34th Street, featuring friends, family and Snyder Fire Department personnel. With Benitez are his daughter-in law Cris Benitez and son Ygnacio Benitez.
Retired firefighter Nathan Ygnacio “Benny” Benitez celebrated his 101st birthday on Friday with a parade of firefighters, family, friends and other community members.
Benitez was born in Mexico and came to America as an 11-month-old baby. He has lived in or near Snyder ever since, and was a Snyder firefighter for 22 years at the old Ave. E fire station before retiring in 1980.
