Groups seeking $51,625 in HOT funds

The Snyder Chamber of Commerce hotel occupancy tax  (HOT) fund committee will hear from 11 different event organizers on Monday.
The groups are requesting a combined $51,625 in HOT funds, which are awarded to events that draw overnight visitors to Snyder.
Two of the events are hosted by the chamber. President/CEO Linda Molina will request $1,350 as reimbursement to cover costs for the Solar Car Challenge overnight stay. The chamber hosted a hamburger dinner for the participants in June.
Events Coordinator Josh Ortegon will request $5,000 for the Oct. 5-6 White Buffalo Days.
The West Texas Extreme Race Circuit, which will hold races Aug. 16-17 at Roland Springs Ranch, is requesting $5,000. The circuit has held two different races at the ranch and is open to all age levels.
The Snyder Bike Rally, which is scheduled for Oct. 5-7 at The Coliseum, is seeking $10,000 and the Plein Air on the Square art event, sponsored by the Scurry County Museum, is seeking $1,175. The art event is scheduled for Nov. 3.
Three different Christmas events are seeking HOT funds this year — Snyder Trade Days is requesting $7,500, Holly-day Bazaar is seeking $7,000 and the Big Country Rehab Christmas Ball is asking for $4,000.
The Western Texas College men’s and women’s basketball teams will request $4,500 and $4,600, respectively, for their basketball tournaments, which will be held Nov. 16-17 at The Coliseum.
The Scurry County Historical Commission is asking for $1,500 for its Heritage Village Christmas event, which will be held in late November.
Organizers will make their presentations to the committee on Monday. Committee members will consider the requests and make a recommendation to the chamber’s board of directors on Aug. 20.
The committee meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the chamber office.
