Snyder ISD Superintendent Jim Kirkland said a Level 3 public hearing requested by a Snyder Junior High School  coach for tonight’s school board meeting will not be held because the posted agenda was not specific enough.
“To have a Level 3 hearing, it must be posted specifically under personnel,” said Kirkland. “
Carlos Cantu, who teaches physical education and is a coach in several sports, requested an open hearing today, Kirkland said.
Cantu has been with the district for three years, according to Kirkland.
In addition, the board will hold the annual evaluation of Kirkland as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Kirkland, who is retiring at the end of June, said the TEA requires a superintendent to be evaluated at least every 15 months.
District policy calls for the Snyder superintendent to be evaluated in December with contract discussions held in January. Because Kirkland is retiring in June and a search is underway for a new superintendent, there will be no contract discussions next month.
