People are trying to take advantage of Scurry County residents through homestead exemption applications.
Scurry County Chief Appraiser Larry Crooks said he received a phone call from a county resident who said a person wanted to provide them with a copy of their property deed and file the homestead exemption applications. The resident would have to pay a fee for the person to do the paperwork.
Crooks said residents can file homestead exemption applications free of charge through the appraisal district.
