Three groups of Ira ISD students are among 15 area teams that have been named finalists in the Texas Workforce Solutions Careers in Action video competition.
For the contest, teams designed and developed three-minute videos detailing local careers.
Winners will be announced Wednesday at the Paramount Theatre in Abilene, with winners receiving money to purchase technology equipment for their respective schools.
Ira High School teams that were named finalists include Michael Woodard, Bryton Partain, Zane Allen and Brayson Cox for their video EMT: Answering the Call, Anzlee Hale, Kandice Clark, Charlotte Highfield, Rykin McCowen and Samantha Briseno for Nurses: Everyday Heroes and Esmeralda Torres, Haylee Gruben, Hayley Rios and Garret Haubert for The Power Is On.
Ira High School technology teacher Walt Burt said his students would be competing in the Class 1A-2A division.
Ira students placed first in their division at the competition two years ago, and Burt said he hopes were high for a similar result Wednesday.
“I think they’ve exceeded what you normally see from high school audio/visual students,” Burt said. “They produced very good, well thought-out and planned videos. I’m very proud of them.”
The projects were totally student-driven, Burt said.
The students picked their subject matter, assigned responsibilities, conducted interviews and added music and special effects in post-production.
“It was a pretty big deal,” Burt said. “The students worked very hard on their projects and I think they did pretty good.”
