Borden County resident Becky Justice, who owns the Coyote Country Store in Gail, said she wants to give back to people and that is why she is hosting concerts in Gail and Snyder.

Justice said she has hosted so many concerts at her store that she had to expand the seating area.

She said she got the idea of having concerts at her store when she was adding the deck to the store patio.

“I said, ‘That looks like a stage — wait, it can be a stage,’” she said. “As fate would have it, an agent out of Dallas saw what we were doing out here and called and asked if we were interested in booking bands.”

Justice said she could hardly believe it.

“At first I thought it was a joke. I didn’t want to tell anybody that I had bands booked from Houston and Dallas, Austin and all over the place. I didn’t think they’d believe me,” she said.

When she was approached about staging larger shows, Justice chose Snyder.

“We’ve been very thankful for the love that’s been shown to us from Snyder and the Scurry County community, so we want to return that, we really do, and we want us all to get stronger and all of us to get better and for all to have a good time,” Justice said.

“We talked about doing some events and we looked into what it would take to get The Coliseum, and when I talked to those ladies (Coliseum officials Kiera Harris and Darla Wiggins), they were so nice and, as it turns out, The Coliseum was open to bringing things to Snyder,” Justice said. “They came out here and they visited with me. They heard the story of the store and they saw what we were doing.”

Scheduled performers at The Coliseum are Gene Watson and Eddy Raven with Black Dirt Revival, on May 19; the Live, Laugh, Love Tour with Chad Prather and Cooper Wade with Monty Dawson and Matte Boone, on July 29 and The Bellamy Brothers with Sawman band and Tom and Michelle Kent on Sept. 2.

“We’ve got the musical connections to do some things that are going to be exciting for our area,” Justice said. “I think there’s a market for the traditional country music because people want to hear more of that. That’s what we’re hoping to do and if we can provide our tickets at affordable rates, then that makes it a good time for everyone to have there in Snyder.”

Justice also said she plans to have quarterly benefits concerts.

She said the Marty Haggard sports benefit concert held in Gail brought in $19,544, which paid for the Borden County football players’ state championship rings.

She said she plans to have a three-day Jamboree at the Coyote store, June 28 to July 1. Johnny Rodriguez, Mike McClure and Johnny Lee with the original Urban Cowboy Band, as well as 22 other acts and several vendors, are scheduled.

“The Jamboree will benefit the Coyote Store. That’s what the concert series were geared toward, not only to solidifying and building community relationships but also to help us grow in strength because the stronger we are the more we are able to do for others,” Justice said.
