Library honors summer readers

The Scurry County Library Summer Reading Program ended on Wednesday with an incentive for children to “go green.”

As part of its Build A Better World program, the library invited Jolly, played by Tricia Gregory, to demonstrate ways for children to “go green” through puppets, songs and magic.

Following the program, the library staff gave out prizes to the top readers. They were determined by number of hours read over 15 hours since the beginning of the program in May.

In the early readers category (ages two through five), there were 123 participants. The top 21 readers were Shelsee DeLagarza, 65 hours, 15 minutes; Ava Snyder, 55:25; Gilberto Higueldo, 50:30; Yaretzi Porras, 46:20; Kinley Muniz, 28:00; Airika Jackson, 27:00; Wyatt Barnes, 24:30; Logan Whitfield, 24:00; Lupita Pachero, 21:37; Veliana Benitez, 20:45; Conner Schneider, 20:45; Davian Thamez, 20:15; Cezar Chavez, 19:45; Nehemiah Pena, 17:50, Jaili Carrasalez, 17:45; Adylene Diaz, 17:30; Zaili Carrisalez, 17:15; Madison Fields, 16:45; Damian Jaramillo, 15:45; Lydia Jaramillo, 15:15; Colten Kincaid, 15:10; and Sierra Smith, 15:00.

In the school-age category (first through fifth grade), there were 157 participants.
