White Buffalo Days is less than a week away, and Snyder performers are preparing to take the stage during the activity-filled weekend.

“We bring out-of-town people to perform to give the community something different, but it’s great to have hometown performers too,” Snyder Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator Josh Ortegon said. “People want to see what their kids are up to, and they want to see what people from Snyder are doing and support them. It brings that hometown feel.”

Local dance instructor and Studio 92 owner Sarah Parmer is getting her students ready to perform on Oct. 7.

“I’m glad that they won’t be performing just for people who know them,” Parmer said. “I hope they respond well to performing for people they don’t know.”

Parmer choreographed the hip hop dance performance to the song Hair Up from the movie Trolls.

“For this dance, I came up with it on the spot,” she said. “My students inspire me most, so it’s hard for me to choreograph without them.”

She also said that they connected well with this dance.

“Since it’s from Trolls, they like it,” Parmer said. “They respond better to music they know.”

The 26 dancers who will perform are from Parmer’s Hip Hop One and Two classes, and this will be the first year they perform at White Buffalo Days.

“In hip hop, it’s important to understand rhythm well because it’s syncopated,” Parmer said. “Technique is important. When they’re this age, you can definitely tell if it comes more natural to some or if it’s something that has to be worked on.”

Studio 92 will perform at the gazebo at 3:30 p.m.

Other performances at the gazebo include Stars R Us gymnasts at 11 a.m., Cindy Wright at 2:30 p.m., Marcus Rios at 3:30 p.m. and Jim Lionberger at 5 p.m.

“It wouldn’t be a White Buffalo Days without Cindy (Wright) or the Deep Creek Cloggers because they give it the Snyder hometown feel,” Ortegon said. “Marcus Rios moved back recently, and it’s been great to have him here. He puts an upbeat, energetic spin on his performances.”

In addition to local performances, the annual event will also include outdoor activities.

Celebrating the autumn season, United Supermarket will stage a pumpkin patch on the courthouse’s northeast parking lot. It will be open from 5-9 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The pumpkin patch will include activities, such as pumpkin painting, a bean bag toss and a spot for pictures. Pumpkins will also be for sale.

The Snyder Farmer’s Market will join the square’s festivities at 8 a.m. on Saturday on the North courthouse lawn.

Snyder Junior High School and Wilson Motors are holding a fundraiser during White Buffalo Days this year. Drive 4 UR Community will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 7 on the First Baptist Church youth parking lot.

For every person who test drives a Ford vehicle, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to the school.
