County Clerk Melody Appleton is awaiting word from state officials before announcing the May 24 runoff election polling locations.
She is checking the election law and consulting with the Texas Secretary of State’s office concerning whether one location for each precinct will be open, or if all 12 locations will be open. Once the locations are set, she will announce the sites.
Appleton said early voting, which is scheduled for May 16-20, will be held on the first floor of the Scurry County Courthouse from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters will need to provide a photo ID at the election sites, she said.
Both parties will have runoffs to determine nominees for the Nov. 8 general election.
The Republican Party nomination for the Scurry County Commissioners’ Court Pct. 3 seat will be determined. Shawn McCowen will face Howard Limmer.
On Tuesday, McCowen led the three-man race with 444 votes (46.25 percent) while Limmer finished second with 295 votes (30.73 percent). Incumbent David Ray Harrell was third with 221 votes (23.02 percent).
The Republican Party nomination for the District 19 U.S. House of Representatives seat will also be determined on May 24. Glen Robertson, who finished with 27 percent of the vote in the district, will face Jodey Arrington, who had 26 percent of the vote.
Arrington received the most votes among the nine candidates in Scurry County with 817, followed by Robertson with 781.
Other Republican Party runoffs will be for Railroad Commissioner (Gary Gates and Wayne Christian), the Place 2 seat on the Criminal Appeals Court (Mary Lou Keel and Ray Wheless) and the Pace 5 seat on the Court of Criminal Appeals (Scott Walker and Brent Webster).
The only Democratic Party runoff will be for Railroad Commissioner. Grady Yarbrough will face Cody Garrett.
Only voters who cast ballots in the March 1 Republican primary and those who did not vote in either primary will be allowed to vote in the runoff election.
To be eligible to vote in the election, a person must be registered by April 25.
