The Snyder Kiwanis Club collected canned goods for its annual Goodfellows food drive from local schools today and will distribute them at The Coliseum Saturday.
The club received 169 applications from families, totaling 623 people. Last year, the club served 170 families, and 670 people.
Distribution will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at The Coliseum and will continue until the last vehicle leaves. Club members and volunteers will load the food in vehicles in the loading area between The Coliseum and annex.
In addition to the cans, the food baskets include items like eggs, chickens and potatoes. The club is still seeking and accepting donations to help purchase perishable items.
To help pay for the perishables, the club held a “Penny War” during the month of November. A total of $637.65 was collected.
West Texas State Bank won the contest with the most points (18,350). The bank raised $184.25 for 18,425 points, but lost 75 points due to silver coins being collected. Bank employees will be treated to a pizza party by the club.
