More than 1,500 Scurry County voters cast votes early in the Democratic and Republican primaries to select their parties’ candidates for the Nov. 3 general election.
According to the Scurry County Clerk Melody Appleton’s office, 1,530 local voters cast early ballots during the two week paired elections — 80 in the Democratic primary and 1,450 in the Republican primary.
Voters’ final chance to help select their party’s candidates is Tuesday, when the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
County residents can choose between seven polling locations to cast their ballot during the primary, and are not restricted to voting at their home precinct’s voting site.
On Tuesday, any county registered voter can vote at the Scurry County Library, the Towle Park Armory, either the north side or the south side of The Coliseum, the Roy Sallee Gymnasium in Ira, the Hermleigh School or the Scurry County Courthouse.
The Republican ballot will feature two contested races for county commissioner and a race for sheriff.
Incumbent Terry Williams will face challenger Bob May to represent Precinct 1 on the commissioners’ court.
Incumbent Shawn McCowen will face challenger Dennis Poole to represent Precinct 3 on the commissioners’ court.
And incumbent Trey Wilson will face challengers Raymond Guzman and Jeanette Pritchard for the title of Scurry County Sheriff.
The only local contested primary race among local Democrats is for county Democratic Party chair, in which incumbent Ed Vinson will be challenged by Lacey Franks.
The Democratic primary does feature a state-level election with a local candidate.
Snyder’s Addison Perry-Franks will face James Barrack of Lubbock for the right to challenge Republican incumbent State Rep. Dustin Burrows of Lubbock.
