Nearly three inches of rain reported in Scurry County

The upper trough the National Weather Service forecast would pass over Scurry County made its way across West Texas and dropped nearly three inches of rain in Scurry County Monday and early today.
Western Texas College’s West Texas Mesonet reporting station recorded the most rain among the county’s three stations with 2.89 inches over the past 24 hours. The SnTx Industrial Park received 2.49 inches while Fluvanna received 1.58 inches.
Winston Field, the weather service’s official reporting station, received 0.88 of an inch. For the year, Snyder has received 17.5 inches of rain.
Residents east of Snyder reported up to 3.5 inches of rain overnight. The Roland Springs Ranch, which will host this weekend’s Long Ear benefit trail ride for the Ben Richey Boys Ranch, received 3.5 inches.
Gail received 1.27 inches over the past 24 hours and that helped increase the water level at Lake J.B. Thomas. Over the past two days, the lake has risen 865 acre-feet. One acre-foot equals about 326,000 gallons, or enough water to cover an acre of land. The lake is currently 35.9 percent full, up from 35.5 percent two days ago.
Lake Alan Henry has also benefited from the rain. Over the past 24 hours, the lake has received 1.44 inches of rain and has risen 1,626 acre-feet over the past week. The lake is currently 80.9 percent full, up from 79.2 percent a week ago.
Sweetwater received the most rain among the Mesonet’s regional reporting stations with 5.41 inches while Rotan received 2.85 inches.
