Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, will not seek an eighth term in Congress in 2016.

Neugebauer made the announcement Thursday.

He is currently the chairman of the financial institutions and consumer credit subcommittee and vice chairman of the House agriculture committee.

“After much thought and prayer, I have decided not to seek re-election in 2016. This was a difficult decision, but I feel this is a good time to end this season of my life and move to another,” Neugebauer said in a statement. “While I am announcing that I will not seek re-election, I am not walking away from the important work that lies ahead. There are still 15 months left in this Congress, and I am committed to work tirelessly on your behalf until the final gavel ends this Congress in January 2017 and another individual takes that special oath soon after.”
