Oil production falls in county, state

Although permits for new wells and completions were on the rise compared to last month and last year, oilfield production fell slightly statewide, and Scurry County was no exception, according to information from the Railroad Commission of Texas.
Scurry County oil wells produced 1.16 million barrels in September, a slight decrease from August, and down almost 200,000 barrels compared to last September. Year-to-date, county producers have reported 11.33 million barrels produced, down 1.6 million barrels compared to the first nine months of 2015.
Sixteen permits to drill in Scurry County were issued in October, four more than October 2015. Nine permits were issued in September.
In districts 8 and 8A, which includes Scurry and the surrounding counties, 483 permits to drill were issued in October, 84 more than were issued in September.
The commission issued a total of 855 original drilling permits statewide in October 2016 compared to 822 in October 2015. The October total included 679 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, 10 to re-enter plugged well bores and 166 for re-completions of existing well bores. The breakdown of well types for those permits issued in October 2016 included 211 oil, 45 gas, 562 oil or gas, 26 injection, zero service and 11 other permits.
In October, commission staff members processed 445 oil, 203 gas, 20 injection and zero other completions compared to 1,138 oil, 196 gas, 53 injection and nine other completions in October 2015.
Total well completions for 2016 year-to-date are 9,405, down from 17,545 recorded during the same period in 2015.
In October, Scurry County operators reported 42 completions, compared to 30 last October. In September, there were 30 completions reported.
In districts 8 and 8A, 190 completions were reported in October compared to 173 in September.
Production for September, as reported to the commission, was 71.4 million barrels of crude oil. These preliminary figures are based on production volumes reported by operators and will be updated as late and corrected production reports are received.
Production reported for September 2015 was 72.8 million barrels of crude oil preliminarily, updated to a current figure of 87.7 million barrels.
In the last 12 months, total Texas reported production was 995 million barrels of crude oil. Crude oil production reported by the commission is limited to oil produced from oil leases and does not include condensate, which is reported separately by the commission.
Texas preliminary September 2016 crude oil production averaged nearly 2.4 million barrels daily, compared to just over 2.4 million barrels daily average last September.
Texas production in September 2016 came from 181,659 oil wells and 93,176 gas wells.
Karnes County was the state’s top producing county with 5.1 million barrels of oil produced, compared to 5.46 million barrels in August. Midland County was second statewide with 5.07 million barrels of oil, down from August’s 5.31 million barrels.
