With just this week remaining for those running for public office to file their candidacy, the May 2 election has only one contested race so far.
No new candidates have filed since the Snyder Daily News reported Feb. 4 that Mitch Hickman had filed to challenge Steve Rich for the Snyder City Council District 2 seat. That race is the only contested one thus far.
In the city race, all four incumbents — Vernon Clay in District 1, Rich in District 2, Steve Highfield in District 3 and Thomas Strayhorn in District 4 — have filed to run.
In the Snyder ISD school board race, incumbents Carrie Richardson in Place 4 and Doug Neff in Place 5 have filed.
In the Scurry County College District board race, incumbents Drew Bullard and Mike McWilliams have filed.
Finally, in the Scurry County Hospital District board race, only incumbent Bennie Marricle has filed to run for re-election.
The deadline to file for a seat on any of the four entities’ boards is Friday.
