The southern portion of Scurry County is listed in the lowest drought stage this week, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

That area is listed as abnormally dry while the northern half of the county is not a drought stage.

A majority of the state, 78 percent, is drought-free this week, down from 83 percent last week.

According to this week’s map, portions of Howard, Martin and Mitchell counties are also listed as abnormally dry.

A storm system, which led to a severe thunderstorm warning in Scurry County Wednesday night, resulted in 0.29 of an inch of rain at Winston Field.

Both Snyder recording stations — Western Texas College and the SnTx Industrial Park — for the West Texas Mesonet website each recorded 0.03 of an inch. Fluvanna’s recording station reported 0.92 of an inch on Wednesday.
