The summer months were good for local retail businesses as sales data indicate ongoing increases over previous year totals.
Sales tax allocations in Snyder and Scurry County continued to track ahead of last year, according to figures released by the Texas Comptroller’s office.
After two straight months of topping the $300,000 mark, Snyder is scheduled to receive $269,473 this month from sales made by businesses in July.
The September total is the fourth highest of the year, trailing only August ($331,807), July ($310,207) and May ($292,228). The 2018 monthly total is 33.94 percent more than the September 2017 total of $201,189.
Year-to-date, the city has received more than $2.3 million, up 14.41 percent compared to the 2017 nine-month total of more than $2.03 million.
The county will receive $194,499 this month, 26.02 percent more than the 2017 total of $154,328.
The county’s September allocation is the third highest of the year, topped only by August ($231,018) and July ($199,789), the comptroller’s figures show.
For the year, the county has received more than $1.5 million, down 28.72 percent compared to the same time period in 2017 when more than $2.2 million was returned. The county’s 2017 total included a onetime audit payment of $627,302 that was received in May 2017.
Allocations paid in September represent sales made in July.
The Comptroller’s office will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $738.8 million in local sales tax allocations for September, 10.5 percent more than September 2017.
