Scurry County’s oil production down in August

While oilfield production rose statewide, operators in Scurry County reported a decrease, according to information from the Railroad Commission of Texas.
Scurry County oil wells produced 1.22 million barrels in August, a slight decrease from July, and down almost 170,000 barrels compared to last August. Year-to-date, county producers have reported 10.14 million barrels produced, down 1.43 million barrels compared to the first eight months of 2015.
Nine permits to drill in Scurry County were issued in September, the same number as September 2015. Eleven permits were issued in August.
In districts 8 and 8A, which includes Scurry and the surrounding counties, 399 permits to drill were issued in September, 50 more than were issued in August.
The commission issued a total of 746 original drilling permits in September 2016 compared to 906 in September 2015. The September total included 610 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, seven to re-enter plugged well bores and 129 for re-completions of existing well bores. The breakdown of well types for those permits issued September 2016 were 217 oil, 39 gas, 448 oil or gas, 34 injection, one service and seven other permits.
In September 2016, commission staff processed 430 oil, 155 gas, 38 injection and seven other completions compared to 1,153 oil, 284 gas, 41 injection and six other completions in September 2015. Total well completions for 2016 year to date are 8,737 down from 16,149 recorded during the same period in 2015.
In September, Scurry County operators reported 30 completions, compared to 21 last September. In August, there were 50 completions reported. Many of the completion reports in 2016 were for temporarily abandoning and recompleting wells.
In districts 8 and 8A, 173 completions were reported in September compared to 281 in August.
Production for August 2016 as reported to the commission is 75 million barrels of crude oil. These preliminary figures are based on production volumes reported by operators and will be updated as late and corrected production reports are received.
Production reported to the commission for the same time period last year, was 74.7 million barrels of crude oil preliminarily, updated to a current figure of 90.5 million barrels.
The commission reported that in the last 12 months, total Texas reported production was 1.004 billion barrels of crude oil. Preliminary August 2016 crude oil production averaged 2,420,481 barrels daily, compared to the 2,409,007 barrels daily average of August 2015. 
Production in August 2016 came from 183,052 oil wells and 92,155 gas wells.
Karnes County was the state’s top producing county with 5.46 million barrels of oil produced, compared to 5.65 million barrels in July.
Midland County was second statewide with 5.31 million barrels of oil, up from July’s 5.4 million barrels.
