The Snyder High School publications department will hold its ninth annual coat and toy drive beginning Monday and continuing through Dec. 8.
Coats and toys collected will be given to Gateway Family Services. Gently-used jackets or coats and new toys may be taken to the school’s main office. The shelter is in need of coats for children and adults as well as toys for all age groups.
Journalism teacher Diane Arnold said that with the help of faculty, staff and students at Snyder High School, the department donated 120 coats and 229 toys to Gateway in 2014.
She said that last year, they donated 117 coats and 80 toys to the shelter with the help of Samantha Francart’s freshman English classes, which donated $127 to help buy toys.
“We like to increase those numbers every year mainly because, unfortunately, Gateway’s client numbers increase (every year) Please encourage your students to think of others as they celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas,” Arnold said. “Not everyone is blessed with warm clothing as cold weather moves in. And little ones love to have new toys at Christmas. We appreciate your help in this.”
Gateway Family Services provided 24 families with 62 children with food, warm clothing, blankets, toys, gifts and toiletries during Christmas last year.
