The Snyder High School Golden Theatre Company will present two performances of Elf the Musical JR. at Worsham Auditorium this weekend.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday and tickets will be $5 each.
The musical is based on the 2003 holiday movie about an elf at the North Pole who learns he is a human and travels to New York City to meet his family.
Members of Craig Robertson’s musical theatre class will perform.
Robertson said his students have been rehearsing Elf while also working on other school projects, including the theatre department’s production of Into the Woods.
“They’ve worked so hard this semester,” Robertson said of his students. “This is our fifth show this semester. That’s more than a show each month. They’re doing this on top of their school work, sports events and other school activities. They’re so dedicated. I think they’re some of the hardest working kids in the school.”
Robertson said Elf is a reward for his students for their work this semester. He said that when a musical is based on a movie it can be difficult not to imitate the movie.
Although the musical is not an exact replica of the movie, he said it is still important to make the performance unique.
“Some of the more iconic lines, we deliver them differently than in the movie,” Robertson said.
