Hayley Humphrey and Jaden West are among the cast members in Snyder Junior High School’s presentation of Seussical, Jr. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at the SJHS cafetorium.
The Snyder Junior High School theatre department will stage three performances of Seussical, Jr. at the SJHS cafetorium this week.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5 per person.
The play is a collection of some of the most famous stories written by Dr. Seuss and will be the first school performance at the junior high building since it opened in August. Snyder Junior High theatre teacher Melia Duzan said she chose Seussical, Jr. because it would be a fun play to open with at the new school.
“It’s fun and won’t be too hard to do,” Duzan said. “There’s not much dialogue at all. It’s mostly music. The music really ties the dialogue together.”
Junior high school choir teacher Jenny Walls has been in charge of the music for the play. Duzan said it will be exciting for her students to perform on a bigger stage, literally, at the cafetorium.
“The stage is big, the light system is fun,” Duzan said. “A lot of people can be seated in this place.”
The cast is made up of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students who earned the parts through open auditions. Duzan said a significant number of the students involved are participating in their first theatre production, but have had a great attitude and work ethic.
“We have quite a few first-timers who are doing a fabulous job,” Duzan said. “It’s been a good experience.”
Cast members are Jax Collier, Aurora Savedra, Hayley Humphrey, Jaden West, Baylee Green, Tanner Tubbs, Kayla Fox, Gillian Crist, Star Castor, Sylvia Martinez, Emilyann Dye, Heaven Miles, Tatiana Sigarrillo, Adan Martinez, Nino Jaramillo, Angel Jaramillo, Alexis Pace, Connie Hermosillo and Mya Bartelt. Crew members are Kristy Lopez, Bethany Avalos, Madison Gent, Chloe Carrizalez, Alyssa Castillo and Ashley Gentry.
