Sunday afternoon, Snyder High School will hold its National Honor Society (NHS) induction ceremony.
The National Honor Society was established to recognize outstanding high school students. It honors students who demonstrate excellence in four areas — scholarship, leadership, service and character. Membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but also challenges them to involve themselves in school activities and community service.
The induction will begin with an introduction and pledges led by Snyder NHS Chapter President Meera Bhakta, followed by a candle ceremony and a hooding ceremony.
The candle ceremony will include one lighted candle representing the society's torch, the symbol of the eternal light of knowledge, flanked by four unlighted candles representing the four areas of excellence.
The new members will light their own candles and recite the pledge of membership, after which they will receive tokens of membership, which include a pin, ID card and patch. Senior members will be presented with their NHS stoles and hooded by the principal and their parents, and closing remarks will be made by Snyder High School Principal Janell Martin and NHS President Meera Bhakta.
Sophomores who will be inducted during the ceremony are Joanie Burns, Zairah Cabrera, Sierra Delorea, Alexia Estrada, Caira Galvan, Baylee Green, Danielle Greer, Maverick Hernandez, Sidni Hunter, Brandy Jones, Grayson Keele, Mary Kerr, Taryn Nobles, Avery Schiffner, Hunter Stewart, Amilee Thomas, Travis Thompson, Jeremiah Valenzuela and Jaden West.
Juniors who will be inducted include Bobby Boen, Trinity Castillo, Jaxson Collier, Zaily Edwards, Juan Escobedo, Alexandra Garza Grimaldo, Connie Hermosillo, Hayley Humphrey, Alyssa Hurt, David Martinez, Yessenia Ruiz, Aurora Savedra and Alondra Tovar.
New senior inductees will be Tegan Dickson, Alfredo Hernandez, Randy Hernandez, Macie Palacios, Antonio Rangel and Chloe Rodriguez.
