Snyder ISD trustees Thursday night voted for a resolution to finance six school buses and five SUVs and approved the bid of Reagor Dykes for the SUVs.

The bid for five Suburbans was $193,275. Wilson Motors submitted a bid for five Expeditions.

The buses and vehicles are being financed by a $750,000 loan that carries an interest rate of 2.15 percent  from Community Bank of Snyder, which had the lowest interest rate of the local banks that submitted bids. The district can pay the loan back in either four or six years at the same interest rate.

Trustees also approved asphalt repairs at the Snyder primary and intermediate school campuses by Bob Gorman Asphalt of Midland not to exceed $25,000, online textbooks and material for the CTE program at the high school at a cost of $82,800 for an eight-year subscription and for technology/hardware for the district’s network infrastructure at a cost not to exceed $30,000.

Board members must approve expenses of more than $25,000.

Trustees approved hiring the Underwood Law Firm for legal work related to Lincoln Clean Energy’s wind project known as Coyote Wind, LLC, as well as approving an agreement limiting the appraised value of property related to the project.

The  law firm’s fee is $60,000.

The appraised value agreement will provide the district with $100 per average daily attendance (ADA) for the term of the agreement.

The 2016-17 ADA was 2,529 students.

Trustees approved the resignation of board member Ron Hester, who is moving out of the district. Superintendent Dr. Eddie Bland suggested the board appoint a former board member to the post who will agree not to run for a full term in May as an at-large member.

Bland said this would allow the appointee to transition quickly with the board, but not give an advantage as an incumbent in the election for a term that would expire in 2019.

In other business, the board voted to change instructor Jeff Marburger’s contract from a 10-month to an 11-month contract, and approved the second reading of a policy update related to instructional resources and materials, credit by examination, graduation and community relations.

Trustees also heard updates on STAAR scores, participation in a Texas A&M research study involving science technology and requirements for determining grade point averages and class ranking.

The board could vote on changes for class ranking in a meeting later this month.

In personnel matters, the board approved the contracts of Janell Martin, SHS principal; Rebecca Mebane, SJHS principal; Morganne Schlegel, SJHS assistant principal;  Courtney Boyd, primary school assistant principal; Shannon Gillespie, intermediate school assistant principal; Darin Farley, intermediate school teacher; Stacy Weatherman, intermediate school teacher; Brian Weatherman, intermediate school teacher; Kathryn Spradlin, SJHS teacher; Jana Farley, primary school teacher; Dawn Brenem, SJHS teacher; Ana Montoya, ACE coordinator; Anne Robertson, SHS theater/debate; Garrett English, SHS teacher; Monica Carrillo, primary school teacher; Alexandria Marsch, SHS athletic trainer; Holly Hefflinger, SJHS teacher; Alan Gillespie, SJHS teacher/coach; Lisa Donham, intermediate teacher; Cole Gossett, SJHS STEM teacher; and Susan Terry, SJHS counselor.
