The operator of Snyder Healthcare Center and Snyder Oaks Care Center announced the merger of the two facilities, and closure of one.
SLP Operators (SLP), LLC, based in Fort Worth, announced the consolidation of the two nursing homes to continue what company officials called efforts to strengthen labor resources in Snyder.
The remaining facility will be known as the Snyder Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Snyder Oaks is located at 210 37th Street. Snyder Healthcare, located on the Big Spring Hwy., will close as part of the merger.
Employees and residents were notified of the consolidation plan earlier this month and the move is expected to be completed in the fall.
Richard Agnew, general counsel for SLP Operators, said Snyder Healthcare Center residents could begin transferring immediately, but no firm timeline has been set for completion of the merger.
“We’re not going to rush anybody,” Agnew said.
Agnew said operations were being consolidated to take advantage of Snyder Oaks’ more modern facilities.
“Snyder Oaks is a newer facility and the plant is newer than at Snyder Healthcare,” he said. “By consolidating, this gives us a better chance to serve the community.”
Agnew said he was unsure how many residents will be affected by the merger.
The company has offered residents the opportunity to relocate to Snyder Oaks or a center closer to their family. SLP officials estimated that less than 1 percent of the staff will discontinue employment.
“I would estimate that in excess of 90 percent of the Snyder Healthcare staff will transfer to Snyder Oaks,” Agnew said. “We are going to make sure that we maintain appropriate staffing levels at the facility.”
The Snyder Oaks facility will focus on skilled nursing and rehabilitative care services, according to a company press release.
“Leadership from both centers continues to work together to integrate and invest in our future growth,” SLP Chief Executive Officer Cassie Mistretta said in a press release. “By bringing our administration and nursing teams together into one location, we will further improve our ability to provide and achieve operating efficiencies more effectively, through enhanced collaboration, communication and teamwork. We are excited about the opportunities ahead for the Snyder Oaks residents, community and employees.”
The center will be managed by Administrator Micki Brittain and Director of Nursing Heather Matchett.
