State sales tax revenue totaled $2.5 billion in November

State sales tax revenue totaled $2.51 billion in November, 2.9 percent less than in November 2015, according to the Comptroller’s office.
Total sales tax revenue for the three months ending in November was down 2.2 percent, compared to a year ago.
Sales tax revenue is the largest source of state funding for the state budget, accounting for 58 percent of all tax collections.
Motor vehicle sales and rental taxes, motor fuel taxes and oil and natural gas production taxes also are large revenue sources for the state. Taxes collected were:
• Motor vehicle sales and rental taxes — $380.2 million, up 7.3 percent from November 2015.;
• Motor fuels taxes — $303.1 million, up 2.8 percent from November 2015.
• Oil and natural gas production taxes — $253.5 million, up 2.2 percent from November 2015.
