Storms drops hail, rain throughout county

Nearly two inches of rain was reported in Scurry County over the weekend as severe weather moved through the area.
The Snyder Water Treatment Plant reported 1.62 inches of rain over the weekend while Western Texas College received 1.49 inches. Winston Field reported 0.80 of an inch while 0.43 of an inch was recorded at the SnTx Industrial Park.
According to the West Texas Mesonet website, Fluvanna received 1.25 inches and Gail recorded 0.97 of an inch.
The weather system blanketed much of West Texas with Clyde receiving 4.32 inches of rain.
The storms caused electrical and traffic-related problems throughout the weekend.
Hail covered parts of U.S. Hwy. 180 east of Snyder Saturday night leading to a vehicle skidding off the highway and into a bar ditch. Both occupants were transported to Cogdell Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The traffic lights were out at the intersection of College Ave. and Cogdell Blvd. at 10:21 p.m. Saturday.
Power lines were down in the 5300 block of CR 254 at 11:09 p.m. Saturday. Big Country Electric Cooperative and the Snyder Fire Department were both notified.
At 11:27 p.m. Saturday, a tree was blocking the southbound lane of South Hwy. 208, about four miles south of Snyder. The Texas Department of Transportation was notified and the tree was removed.
The National Weather Service is calling for isolated showers and thunderstorms for Tuesday afternoon, but chances will increase to 40 percent Tuesday night.
A 40 percent chance of rain will be in Wednesday’s forecast and it will increase to 60 percent during the evening hours. Rain chances will remain in the forecast through Saturday.
