Three houses declared nuisance, demolition ordered by commission

Four houses will be demolished after three were declared substandard nuisance buildings by Snyder’s Building Standards Commission on Monday. The owner of the fourth voluntarily agreed to demolish the house.
The houses are located at 220 34th Street, 1900 Ave. I, 1007 21st Street and 906 30th Street.
City Inspector Dan Hicks said Henry Medrano, who owns the house on Ave. I, had pulled a demolition permit earlier on Monday and had agreed to take care of the house’s removal.
The house on 34th Street, which city records indicate is owned by Wanda R. Bennett of San Angelo, has multiple dangerous conditions. Outstanding taxes of $1,388 are unpaid from 2014 and 2015. There are also $6,169 in city mowing and lot cleanup liens dating back to 2013.
The house had been scheduled for demolition in March 2013, but the owner’s daughter asked for time to correct problems, but Hicks said that was the last time he heard from her. Commission member Vernon Clay questioned the wisdom of incurring additional liens — for demolition — when the property had so many liens against it already.
Hicks said the appraised value of the house and lot was $23,815.

The house on 21st Street, which is owned by Maria Hermosillo according to city records, was moved onto the lot without a permit. In January 2010, a mobile home on the lot was demolished and in January 2013, the property owner entered a payment agreement with the city and paid the lien.
“It should never have been moved in there,” Hicks said of the current mobile home.
The appraised value of the lot and home is $2,859.

The house on 30th Street is owned by Ouzzie McClain, Jessie Mae McClain, T.R. McClain and Evelyn McClain of Pearsall, according to city records. Hicks said neighbors have made multiple complaints about the property and house, which is currently valued at $0 on the tax rolls. However, $4,387 in taxes are due, dating back to 2000.
Clay said he knew the sons of the owner and would talk to them about the situation, which includes an open storm cellar in the yard.
