As it enters its stretch run, Scurry County United Way’s 65 Years Strong campaign has reached just more than half its goal.
The fundraising campaign began in September, and will run through the end of December. Through Monday, the campaign has raised $87,691 of the $165,000 goal.
This year’s goal was increased by $47,000, almost 40 percent, from last year’s goal of $118,000. As an ongoing fundraiser, volunteers will wrap Christmas gifts by appointment. A person may drop off their gifts and come back to find them wrapped in premium wrapping paper with a bow on top.
The United Way will also have a booth at the Snyder Trade Days so that shoppers may get gifts wrapped before taking them home.
The final event of this year’s campaign will be a Cheers for Charity New Years Eve Bash at Amore. The restaurant has donated its venue and a DJ for the event, and United Way will provide food. The doors will open at 9 p.m. and tickets may be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com. The party will wrap up the campaign and celebrate the organization’s 65 year history in a special and memorable way.
Money raised during this year’s campaign will benefit 11 local non-profit agencies: Boy Scouts of America Buffalo Trail Council, Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, Jumpstart Enrichment for Tomorrow’s Students, Scurry County 4H, Scurry County Food Cupboard, Scurry County Museum, Snyder Christian School, Snyder Volunteer Fire Department and West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center.
