Working as a single team, even though they are eight individuals, was the theme for Monday’s Snyder ISD board training.
“You seven board members and the superintendent must work together for the benefit of the students in this district,” Steve Maikell of the Region 14 Educational Service Center (ESC 14), said during an hour-long board training session.
Maikell made note of a statement on the Snyder ISD website, “Students first, no excuses.”
“That’s very good,” Maikell said. “You are going in the right direction for the students.”
Maikell said teamwork was important even though board members ran for the board as individuals, with different goals and ideas.
“You were elected to serve as a member of a team without any individual authority or power,” Maikell said.
He added that while a vote might not be 7-0 every time, each board member should support the board’s decision
“You must move forward for the sake of the students,” Maikell said.
Maikell said the board and the new superintendent should review the district’s goals early and often.
“You should then review those goals in five or six months to give the new superintendent an understanding of what the board wants,” Maikell said.
Trustees will meet at noon Tuesday with the district’s superintendent search consultant, Ronnie Kincaid, of ESC 14.
