2018 was ninth-wettest year of century in Scurry County

One year after experiencing one of the driest years of the century, the 2018 Scurry County rainfall total cracked the top 10 of the wettest years.
The 2018 total of 24.35 inches ranked ninth this century. In 2017, the county received 15.02 inches of rain, which trailed only 2011’s drought-stricken year of 9.07 inches.
This century, the county received more than 20 inches of rain, which marked the 12th different time that has occurred. The highest total was 42.74 inches in 2004.
The most rainfall ever recorded in Scurry County was 44.02 inches in 1941. 
Over the last year, Lake J.B. Thomas has gone from 48.3 percent to 36.9 percent capacity. The lake went from 97,335 acre-feet to 74,522 acre-feet over the past year, according to the Water Data for Texas website. 
Entering 2019, Scurry County is listed as drought-free by the U.S. Drought Monitor.
