Snyder Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts held their first Scouting for Food food drive Saturday morning at United Supermarkets.
Nationwide, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts held food drives Saturday to collect cans to donate to their local food banks. Cub Master Monica Bond said Boy Scouts of America holds Scouting for Food annually, but Snyder Scouts participated for the first time because they had enough members.
“I think it teaches (Scouts) that there are people out there who are less fortunate than they are and we should give back to our community in any way that we can,” Bond said. “Especially since our community helps out our program in so many ways. I couldn’t ask for a more supportive community to live in.”
Bond said the community helped Snyder Scouts collect 2,251 pounds of food, which will be donated to Scurry County Food Cupboard.
