The Scurry County Museum has opened registration for its summer camps.
Scurry County Museum educator Erika Jayne Christian said there will be six new camps for students in first through sixth grades.
“Since I’ve been here, I try to bring new and different camps for the kids out of school,” she said. “It used to be the same camps every year but I wanted to make sure the kids are learning and really getting something out of our camps.”
Christian said students love the museum’s camps because of the various hands-on projects.
This year students will have the opportunity to learn about the history and cultures associated with different animals, participate in different science experiments, create projects using recycled materials, explore the history of technology used in West Texas, participate in chemistry experiments to create new colors and learn about dinosaurs and prehistoric animals that once inhabited this region.
Christian said she brainstormed with previous camp instructors and parents who regularly register their kids for summer camps for ideas.
Each camp is four days long and all will be held in the month of June. Christian said the camps will allow a maximum of 20 students.
Early registration for a discounted price ends May 4, but Christian said parents may continue to register up until the first day of camp — June 10.
