The former Hermleigh ISD school campus and football stadium are now on the market.
On Tuesday, the board of trustees passed two separate resolutions authorizing the sale of the school property and land on which the former football stadium was located. Superintendent Cassie Petty said the administration will soon have bid packets available for prospective buyers.
The administration will be working over the next few days establishing bid requirements and deadlines.
According to information in the board packet, an oilfield company expressed interest in buying the property.
“As you know, we are unable to just sell property, we must first take and accept bids,” Petty wrote on the board meeting notes.
The board met in closed session to discuss the possible sale, but voted in open session on the resolutions to authorize it.
Petty also announced that crews from Hellas Construction are waiting for turf to arrive to complete the playground renovation and work on the track is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of Nov. 11. Petty said that may change if the football team makes the playoffs.
Hellas crews will install shock pads over the playground areas where children are most likely to fall, then cover the area with artificial turf similar to the surface of the football stadium.
At the track, crews will install a three-layer surface, topped by a water-proof layer, that comes with a five-year warranty. If the track begins to show signs of wear after five or six years, company officials said they would “re-top” the surface for $100,000 to extend its life.
“They have told us that the track should be done before the spring and that will allow us to host track meets,” Petty said.
The board approved an interlocal agreement with Colorado ISD for the disciplinary alternative education program and nominated Clarence Spieker to appear on the Scurry County Appraisal District board of directors’ ballot.
Six Scurry County taxing entities, along with Roscoe Collegiate ISD and Colorado ISD, will cast votes in the election in December. The only Scurry County taxing entity that does not nominate or vote in the election is the Scurry County Hospital District.
The students of the first six weeks were recognized by the board. They were elementary student Colby Campbell, junior high school student Kia Vargas and high school student Kamryn Hill.
No one spoke during a public hearing on the district’s superior Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) rating. FIRST is the state’s financial accountability rating system for public schools. Petty said the district scored 96 out of a possible 100 points in 2018-19.
No action was taken following a second closed session that covered personnel.
