Four men are headed to prison after they were convicted in District Judge Ernie B. Armstrong’s courtroom recently.
David Gomez Jr., 30, of Snyder, entered guilty pleas to a third-degree felony charge of bail jumping/failure to appear and state-jail felony charge of theft.
In exchange for his plea on the bail jumping/failure to appear charge, Gomez was given a five-year sentence and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and $909 in court and attorney fees.
On June 22, 2015, Gomez failed to appear for a court hearing after being released from custody.
Gomez was also given an 18-month sentence and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, $13,694 in restitution and $919 in court and attorney fees.
On Dec. 3, 2014, Gomez attempted to steal welding supplies and a trailer, valued at more than $1,500 and less than $20,000, from his victim.
He is currently serving a sentence for felony possession of methamphetamine from Taylor County, and will serve these sentences concurrently once that is completed.
Darrell Ray Shaver, 41, of Orange, was ordered to serve an 18-month sentence after he entered a guilty plea to a state-jail charge of felony theft.
As part of his plea deal he was also ordered to pay $920 in restitution and $919 in court and attorney fees.
On May 20, Shaver attempted to steal less than $50 in currency from his victim. He has previous theft convictions, in November 2009 in Freestone County and in July 2014 in Lee County.
Charles Churchwell, 41, of Weatherford, will serve an 18-month sentence for theft, a state-jail felony.
In addition to his sentence, Churchwell was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, $29,466 in restitution and $909 in court and attorney fees.
The restitution will be paid to five victims and includes the District Attorney’s hot check fee. He stole currency from one of the victims and wrote checks without having sufficient funds on deposit to the other four.
Mario Delarosa Matos, 52, of Snyder, was given a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements, a third-degree felony.
He was also ordered to pay $178 in restitution and $919 in court and attorney fees.
In June 2014, Matos failed to report to law enforcement within 30 days of the anniversary of his date of birth to verify sex offender information.
He was convicted of the same charge in Scurry County in July 2011.
