During today’s Scurry County Hospital District board of directors meeting, Scurry County Chief Appraiser Larry Crooks announced Stephen Campbell, T.Y. Pickett’s president, had received notification from an insurance company and has provided requested information to make a claim on the company’s errors and omissions policy.
The letter stated that Pickett officials do not “know how it will play out.”
When asked about the process of setting mineral values, Crooks said it is hard for his office to come behind Pickett’s numbers to review. But he said he would look into establishing a program to do that in the future.
“We will do everything we can to review the numbers,” Crooks said.
Crooks said since the mistake was found in late August, Pickett officials have added safeguards to check values entered into the system.
A miscalculation in entering mineral values for Oxy Permian cost the district a $245,000 loss in projected revenue. The hospital board had set its tax rate before the miscalculation was discovered.
Board chairman Russell Riggan asked Crooks to keep the administration updated on the insurance claim and any safeguards put in place by the appraisal district.
The board approved credentials for Dr. Kathie Voight for the walk-in clinic. Credentials for Dr. Carla Soler were tabled until the paperwork is complete while Dr. Frank Saunders informed the administration that he would not be working at the clinic. No reason was given.
The November-December board meeting was scheduled for Dec. 7. Board policy states directors must meet at least 11 times per year. Directors routinely hold one meeting for November-December.
The board did not take action on a $10 million construction loan resolution. Chief Executive Officer Ella Helms said the resolution will be presented when the paperwork is complete. The loan would be for equipment in various areas of the hospital.
Following a 40-minute closed session to discuss personnel, the board took no action.
