Marita Ann (Colson) Burton

1960-2020

Marita Ann Burton, 60, died Sunday, April 19, 2020 in Snyder.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burton was born March 10, 1960, in Memphis to James Colson and Jamesie (Clay) Colson.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, W.E. Colson and Viola (Moody) Colson and Horace and Maudie (Sexton) Clay.

Survivors include her husband, Danny Burton of Snyder; two sons, James "J.B." Burton of New Deal and Daniel Burton and wife, Kathy, of Austin; a grandson, Jonathan Burton of Huntsville; three granddaughters, Zazanna Burton of Tennessee, Kaitlyn Burton of New Deal and Te'Andra Burton of New Deal; his parents of Lubbock; and a brother, Billy Colson and wife, Janice, of Childress.

Jane Hinton

1928-2020

Jane Brightman Hinton, 91, of Snyder died at her home Sunday, April 19, 2020.

The family will honor Jane with a private graveside ceremony at Hillside Memorial Gardens with Pastor Kevin Phillips officiating.  A memorial service will be reserved for a later date due to the coronavirus pandemic. Arrangements will be managed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home of Snyder. 

A long-time resident of Snyder she was active in the community as a Pink Lady at Cogdell Memorial Hospital, a member of Cosmorama Study Club and Daughters of the American Revolution.  Jane was a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League.  She was a prolific reader, and enjoyed following her children and grandchildren in their sporting and agricultural pursuits.

Born October 10, 1928, in Comanche, Texas, Jane graduated from Abilene High School, attended McMurry College, Southwestern University and Texas Christian University before her marriage in 1954. Her father, Dwight Moody Brightman, was sheriff of Comanche County when Jane was born. The family lived in the basement of the jail during that time.  Dwight became a Special Agent of the FBI, enjoying assignments in Nashville and Knottsville, Tenn.; New York City, N.Y.; Denver, Colo.; and Lubbock, Abilene and Dallas.  Jane remembered fondly their time in New York City when she was 10 and 11 years old. Jane was a member of First United Methodist Church of Snyder.   

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph DeShane Hinton, an architect who designed many buildings in Snyder, Scurry County, Cisco Junior College, and Comanche; by her father, Dwight of Comanche; her mother, Corinne Luker Brightman of Comanche; and a brother, Jack Moody Brightman, also of Comanche.  She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ty Voss Hinton of Snyder.

Survivors include three sons, Michael DeShane Hinton of Snyder, Mark Brightman Hinton of Abilene and Gregory French Hinton of Odessa; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
