M.L. Chandler

1933-2017

Morris “M.L.” Chandler, 84, of Snyder, died Friday, July 21, 2017 in Lubbock.

Funeral service for Mr. Chandler will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born on Jan. 19, 1933 in Snyder to Walter and Lida (Leatherwood) Chandler, he married Moarine Palmer on Nov. 6, 1950 in Snyder. He was enlisted in the United States Army from 1953-55. M.L. was retired with the City of Snyder, being employed as a police officer, and also worked as a sheriff’s deputy and for Snyder Cemetery. He enjoyed mentoring his law enforcement friends as well as running his jug lines fishing for catfish.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Inez Prince, Hollis Chandler, D.D. Chandler, Irene Kidd, Floyd Chandler, Iva Nell Barker and Leonard Chandler.

Survivors include his wife, Moarine Chandler of Snyder; two daughters, Monica Chandler and Melissa Kruger and her husband, Richard, all of Snyder; one granddaughter, Marcie Beard and her husband, David, of Pyron; one grandson, Kade Kruger of Georgia; and two granddaughters, Lily Kate and Harper Jane Beard, both of Pyron.

Marjorie Daniel

1927-2017

Marjorie Lee Daniel, 90, of Snyder, died Friday, July 21, 2017 in Snyder.  

Memorial service for Mrs. Daniel will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. The service will be under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

 

Doug Flynn

1923-2017

Emil Douglas Flynn, 94, of Snyder, died Sunday, July 23, 2017.

Graveside service for Mr. Flynn will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillside Memorial Gardens. The service will be under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Flynn was born on July 5, 1923 in Orange, N.J. to Walter H. and Dorothy Decker Flynn. He married Jo Ervin Bailey on May 3, 1943 in Louisville, Ky. when they were both 19. After active service in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he returned to New Jersey, where he attended Montclair State College, obtaining a master’s degree in accounting while working as a garbage man to support his young family. The family moved to Virginia, where he was an investment advisor and taught accounting at Bluefield College. 

Through all of this, he continued to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a liaison officer for the U.S. Air Force Academy, retiring after 42 years as a lieutenant colonel. In 1957, the family moved to Snyder, where he was the business manager/assistant superintendent of Snyder ISD for 23 years.

Mr. Flynn had a lifelong love of flying. In the Army Air Corps, he flew the C-46, C-47 and the CG-4A Glider, in which he was an instructor pilot. After moving to Snyder, he continued to fly for the Diamond M Foundation and various friends. He also served on the Scurry County Airport board of directors for many years. 

He played a key role in the establishment, provisioning of, and subsequent management of the National World War II Glider Pilot Museum in Lubbock. For many years he served as the national president of the WWII Glider Pilots Association and later as the treasurer of the Silent Wings Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his bothers, Walter H. Flynn Jr. and Roger A. Flynn.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Jo Bailey Flynn; three children, John and his wife, Vicki, of Santa Fe, N.M., Mike and his wife, Laura, of Las Cruces, N.M. and Tim and his wife, Maria, of Kalaheo, Hawaii; his younger brother, Roland R. Flynn of Hackettstown, N.J.; one brother-in-law, Joseph Rhodes of Mendham, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Scott, Shannon, Brian, Colin, Michelle, Windsor, Christopher and Lily; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by friends too numerous to mention whose love and care was made abundantly clear to both him and his family during this last month of his life.

He loved well and was well loved.

Michelle Nobles

1971-2017

Michelle Nobles, 45, of Snyder, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 in Snyder.

Funeral service for Mrs. Nobles will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born on Oct. 20, 1971 in Snyder to Charles and Joy (Tatom) Smith, she married John Nobles on July 4, 2012 in Snyder.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her husband, John Nobles of Snyder; four sons, John K. Nobles of Lawton, Okla., Jeremiah Nobles of Warsaw, Ind., Steven Nobles of Lufkin and John Nobles II of Odessa; three daughters, Michelle Floyd of Apple Springs and Neoma Richardson and Donna Knipp, both of Salina, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Joy Smith of Hermleigh; 10 brothers, Chuck Smith of Diamond, Mo., Jay Smith of Aspermont, Jim Smith of Mineral Wells, Billy Smith, Bobby Smith, Harve Smith and Scott Smith, all of Hermleigh, Karl Smith of Ira and Frank Smith and J.P. Smith, both of Snyder; three sisters, Brandy Harty of Hermleigh and Samantha Johnson and Georganna Smith, both of Snyder; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Sprague

1923-2017

Dorothy Irene Sprague, 94, of Mount Ida, Ark., died Monday, July 24, 2017 in Mount Ida.

Bert Stahl

1935-2017

Bert August Stahl, 81, of Snyder, died Monday, July 24, 2017 in Snyder.  

Funeral service for Mr. Stahl will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hermleigh First Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Culp officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born on Sept. 8, 1935 in Scurry County to C.H. and Elsie (Walters) Stahl, he married Patricia Davis on Nov. 25, 1955 in Scurry County. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2001.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Martha Ann Hugh and Bobbie Stahl.

Survivors include two sons, Tim Stahl and his wife, Michale, and Ricky  Stahl and his wife, Terry, all of Snyder; six grandchildren, Barry Stahl and his wife, Maria, Shainna Stahl, Chris Stahl and his girlfriend, Kaylynn Orosco, Levi Stahl, Jason McMillan and his wife, Amanda, and Aron Stanley; and five great-grandchildren.
