Mary Darnell Eiland

1938-2020

Mary Darnell Eiland, 82, of Snyder died Saturday, March 7, 2020.
Visitation and funeral was held today at Colonial Hill Baptist Church. Visitation was 1-2 p.m., followed by funeral service at 2 p.m. Private family interment was held at Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Eiland was born February 15, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Jack and Kate (Bynum) Darnell. She married her one true love, Bill Eiland, on Dec. 2, 1963, in Ft. Worth. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2012.
She and her husband operated Eiland Ranch, where their love of showing and racing horses brought them incredible joy. Eiland ranch manager, J.T. Sullenger, became her mentor training and showing horses and sharing his invaluable knowledge, which led to her earning nine Grand Champions at Halter and five Champion Youth Mare. Bill and Mary raced quarter horses for more than 50 years in California, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and New York. The close relationships they made through their love of horses held some of their fondest memories.
Mary will be remembered for her unwavering faith, encouraging spirit and willingness to help anyone in need. She was a longtime member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church and an active member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Don and Robert Darnell.
Survivors include her son, Jay Eiland and his wife, Randi; her granddaughter, Arden Eiland and grandson Race Eiland, all of Dallas; she is also survived by three stepdaughters, Martha Martin and husband, Terry, Susan Smith and husband, Darty, and Carol Trulock; a step-granddaughter, Hope Veiga and husband, Anderson; two nephews, Mark Darnell and Robert Darnell; and niece, Tammy Darnell Galloway.

Venona Elizabeth Gilstrap

1934-2020

Mrs. Venona Elizabeth Gilstrap, 85, of Broken Bow, Okla., formerly of Snyder, died Thursday, March 5, 2020, in Idabell, Okla. 
A graveside service for Mrs. Gilstrap will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Snyder Cemetery with Mr. Darrell Chappell officiating.  No visitation is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gilstrap was born Aug. 16, 1934, in Pilot Point to Roger and Kate (Henderson) Hamblett. She married Pat Gilstrap on April 21, 1955, in Snyder. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1996. She was a school teacher for many years and a member of the East Side Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Tracie Wilson of Broken Bow, Okla.; and a son, Doug Gilstrap of Snowmass, Colo.

Jessie V. Scarbrough
1926-2020

Mrs. Jessie V. Scarbrough, 93, of Snyder died Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at her home.
A private graveside service will be held at Hillside Memorial Gardens with Mr. Arlie Eicke officiating. No visitation is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1926, in Childress county to Etta and Cletis Terrell. Mrs. Scarbrough graduated from Kirkland High School in 1944.  She married her high school sweetheart, Raymond “Bud” Scarbrough after graduation, and they celebrated 60 years together. He died December 30, 2004. She joined the Methodist Church at the age of 13 and was active in the church all her life. She was a life member of Women's Society of Christian Service and P.T.A. She was also a member of Martha Ann's Women's Club, American Business Women's Association in Snyder, a member of Eastern Star and Cogdell Hospital Auxiliary for several years. She retired from the Department of Public Safety as the Driver's License Clerk after 25 years.

You have had an amazing journey through life, I love listening to your stories - you have experienced so much in your lifetime!
You have been blessed with family and many friends, but more importantly, you have blessed those around you even more.
I've known you for only 31 of those 91 years, but I love and admire you more than almost anyone else in my life.
You set an amazing example of how to lead a pious and virtouous life in the eyes of our Lord.
There are not enough adjectives to describe you, but I'm going to try:

A Godly woman, elegant, loving, kind, giving, compassionate and joyful - I love to hear your laugh!
You are tolerant, forgiving, caring, loyal, a hard worker and willing to always help others.
You are an "Angel" on earth, the nicest person I've ever known-never having a bad word to say about anyone.  You always see the best in everyone.
You also raised an amzing son, whom I am blessed to have as my loving husband and best friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, L.H. Terrell and Billy V. Terrell; a daughter, Barbara Nell Gowin; and a granddaughter, Shae Gowin.
Survivors include a son, Terrell “Terry”  Scarbrough and wife, Cary, of Ft. Stockton; three grandchildren, Kara McKneely and husband, Billy, Lexi Velasquez and husband, Auden, and Tye Arnett; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Gowin, Audrey Velasquez, Parker Velasquez and Carter Velasquez; and a son-in-law, Bill Gowin.
